The Singapura comes from Singapore. However, rather than being native cats roaming the streets of Singapore, the breed derives from Abyssinians and Burmese cats who were carefully bred to produce this breed — in Singapore.

This is the smallest full-sized cat breed (i.e., not a dwarf breed). They weigh 5 to 8 pounds.

Reproductive problems are known in the breed, particularly uterine inertia. Breeders are very concerned about the lack of genetic diversity in the breed, since it is derived from three foundation cats and there has been little out crossing.
