The Nebelung is one of the rarer cat breeds. The breed was founded in 1984 from a cross between a black Domestic Shorthair and a male Domestic Longhair that looked like a Russian Blue. These cats resemble a longhaired Russian Blue and there have been some crosses with Russian Blue to obtain that breed’s body type. These are small to medium cats.

Breeders often outcross the Nebelungs to Russian Blues to keep the gene pool large. They generally share the same health status as the Russian Blue, which makes them rather healthy cats. They are long-lived with no known breed-related diseases.
