The Manx Cat is a tailless cat from the Isle of Man off the coast of England. They have been known on the island for at least several centuries.
The mutated gene which causes the Manx cat to be tailless also shortens the spine. This can sometimes cause other health problems, i.e., Manx Syndrome. There can be different vertebral problems, along with spina bifida. Because of spinal problems, the breed can suffer from constipation and fecal incontinence. Atresia ani, rectal prolapse, and pyoderma are also found in the breed.
