The Himalayan is a cross between a Persian and a Siamese. These cats have been around for a long time and breeders now breed Himalayans to Himalayans. The breed has the long coat of the Persian, and the flat face, along with the color points of the Siamese.
Himalayans have the same health problems as Persians, as well as cataracts: Nostril constriction, cherry eye, tear duct overflow, dental malocclusions, polycystic kidney disease, entropion, and seborrhea oleosa are also problems. Progressive retinal atrophy (PRA) and polycystic kidney disease are also common health problems in Persians. Hip dysplasia and luxating patellas also occur in Persians. This is not a definitive list. Breeds which have been created by using Persians are subject to all of these problems.
