These beautiful cats are a rich, solid brown color. They are considered somewhat rare today but they may have been in existence since the Middle Ages. The Havana Brown is an average-sized cat.
The breed was restarted a couple of times in the 20th century. A recent DNA study has found that the breed has a genetic diversity level as low as that of the Florida Panther, one of the most endangered species of cat. Breeders will need to do more if they intend to save this breed.
