The Egyptian Mau seems to be a very old breed of cat, with some people claiming that she dates back some 4000 years to the time of the ancient Egyptians. She was not brought to the West until the 20th century. This is a medium-sized short haired cat. Both her skin and fur are spotted.

At one time the Egyptian Mau was prone to feline asthma and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) but breeders have worked hard to eliminate these problems. Food allergies still exist.
