The California Spangled is both a rare and an exotic cat.  The breed was “launched” in 1986 in the Neiman-Marcus catalog.  Very little is known about this breed except that breeders attempted to cross an exotic cat with a domestic cat to produce a domestic cat that had the appearance of a leopard.  There are only a few breeders and owners of these cats today.

Very little is known about the cat or about any health problems.  The cat may have coat similarities to the Abyssinian and to the King Cheetah.  According to one source the California Spangled was bred entirely from domestic cats, without any outcrossing to wild cats.  No one seems to have any definitive information.
