The American Bobtail is a relatively new breed of cat that has appeared since the 1960s. They are known for their naturally-occurring bobbed tail. They are strictly an American breed of cat and are not recognized in other parts of the world. The Bobtail can weigh from 15 to 20 pounds.
American Bobtails can have hip problems and there can be spinal problems connected to the bobbed tail. “Rumpies,” or tailless cats with shortened spines are undesirable and can have more health problems.
